I didn't have the heart to tell Chloe and Mae we were having a duck for dinner...told them it was a chicken! Chloe told me it looked like a frog.

October - The End of the Raspberries

The last picking of the raspberries broke my heart. I wanted to cry in the fields. This was the beginning of my first winter in the country. The bounty of the summer harvest gave me energy, made me happy, gave me hope...could the long cold winter with 2 greenhouses and a root cellar really compare?

Go out in style raspberries - go in a tart.

This blog was inspired by my experiences as a member at my local CSA - Quail Hill farm - where eating local "in season meals" became a new way of life for me, making decisions on what to feed my family, based on what the farm is providing at any given time; using local organic ingredients whenever possible.

Every meal you see here was eaten and enjoyed by both my husband and I as well as our 2 daughters (ages 2 and 3.5). From the day that our girls started venturing into foods other than milk, they have eaten what we eat (ground up or otherwise)- they don't know any other way.
